SUNY (State University of New York) Brockport is devoted to maintaining an inviting, respectful and collaborative community that is free of discrimination. To that end, a bias incident reporting system was developed to monitor and ensure a review of and a response to incidents that impact our living, learning, and working environment is provided.

Bias-Related Incidents

As an inclusive learning community that inspires excellence through growth, engagement, and transformation, we welcome all groups of individuals to our university community. We reject racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and all other forms of bias and discrimination. And we stand against the discrimination or marginalization of any group.

SUNY Brockport is an academic community dedicated to principles that foster integrity, civility, and justice. We value and accept each other’s cultural, physical, cognitive, social, and professional differences. To create and maintain a meaningful learning environment, it is imperative to hear from the variety of experiences and voices that are a part of our community. Therefore, bias actions by community members, visitors, or guests, based on race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, disability, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, familial status, pregnancy, predisposing genetic characteristics, military status, domestic violence victim status, or criminal conviction, are counter to the purposes of our community.

Furthermore, SUNY Brockport upholds the First Amendment to the United States Constitution by not limiting freedom of expression, particularly speech, even when that speech challenges the values and ideals of some of its members. Bigoted, racist, or other forms of intolerant speech or offensive expression are protected— but are also contrary to our values. SUNY Brockport also upholds Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origins. Any speech or conduct that targets a specific individual or group of individuals and creates an unreasonable interference with that individual’s or group’s ability to pursue educational purposes or to benefit from university life is prohibited by the University through our Code of Student Conduct and Discrimination and Harassment Policy.
