Why Teach Chemistry?
Our major is designed to meet the essential requirements for expertise in both chemistry and teaching. Students receive the same core content as our chemistry major partnered with our student-centered education curriculum.
Culminate your studies with hands-on student teaching experiences in a chemistry classroom, gaining direct mentorship from a local teacher. Completion of the program will prepare you to seek initial certification to teach chemistry grades 5 - 12.

Inclusive Teaching Certification
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities? Our programs offer the option to pursue dual certification, adding initial certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7 – 12) to your initial certification in Adolescence Chemistry (Grades 5 – 12). Expand your skill set to work with students who have unique learning needs.

Career Outlook
Our adolescence chemistry programs prepare you to become a chemistry teacher for grades 5 – 12. If you pursue dual certification, you will also be prepared for a career as a special education teacher.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job projection for high school teachers is expected to rise by 4% from 2018-2028, and the job projection for middle school teachers is expected to rise by 3%.
New York State Education Department (NYSED) issued teaching certificates are highly valued throughout the US, allowing for a reciprocity process in all 50 states.
