Why teach math?
Problems. Patterns. Variables. Math is everywhere in the world, and we are constantly making calculations. Whether you’re trying to, budgeting for your weekly groceries, or deciding what time to leave the house to catch a movie.
Expand your own understanding of math and learn to communicate and connect with young learners to help them develop their logic and problem solving skills.
Expand your skill set to work with students who have unique learning needs by completing a dual certification in Students with Disabilities (grades 5-12).
Theory and Practice
In addition to completing a full mathematics degree covering algebra, geometry, statistics, and calculus, you will take courses in classroom management, inclusive teaching, and adolescent development.
All students will gain field experience and complete a semester of student teaching in a school district, and will prepare for initial certification by the New York State Education Department for Adolescence Education (grades 5-12).
