From industry leaders to United States presidents, many began their careers as Army Officers.

Army ROTC cadets participate in Color Guard during a campus Veterans’ Day ceremony, showcasing their reverence for our country’s sacred symbols as well as their leadership and professionalism.

What does ROTC require of me?

ROTC cadets are regular SUNY Brockport students. The program consists of four years. Students can choose to take the basic course (no obligation to serve) or the advanced course (does incur military obligation).

Students can also take ROTC as an elective or pursue the entire program, which culminates in a commission as a Second Lieutenant—an Army Officer.

Our students have a regular course schedule and declare a separate academic major.

Career Outlook

Cadets who are commissioned as Second Lieutenants (Officers) at the culmination of the program are prepared to become managers within the Army. They are tasked with making important decisions in stressful situations, and they are entrusted with the safety of the men and women under their command.

Being an Officer in the US Army will not only serve as a point of pride, but it will also be useful to you in your civilian career. Employers place a high value on the discipline and leadership skills that the Army fosters in its Soldiers. Army Officers are often looked to as prime candidates for management roles and executive positions.
