Student teaching Spanish

Learn the skills to connect with and cultivate over 8 million K-12 students in the United States who speak Spanish at home.

All teacher candidates will complete their education by student teaching  for 15 weeks over the course of their final semester, gaining real practical experience managing a classroom and interacting with students.

Why teach Spanish?

According to the 2021 U.S. Census Bureau, 15% of K-12 students speak Spanish at home — and this number only continues to grow. Additionally, more and more children are enrolling in Spanish immersion elementary schools, developing bilingual skills from an early age.

Become a teacher who can help guide and educate young people from different cultures and help them navigate the world as bilingual learners.

Inclusive Teaching Certification

Expand your skill set to work with students with unique learning needs by completing a dual certification in Students with Disabilities.

Conversation, culture, and classrooms

In addition to completing courses to become proficient in the Spanish language, students will take cultural classes such as “Spanish for the Professions” and “Hispanic Film,” as well as courses in classroom management and adolescent development.

All students will gain field experience and complete a semester of student teaching in a school district, and will prepare for initial certification by the New York State Education Department for Adolescence Education (grades 5-12).
