The Master of Science in Nursing program prepares practicing nurses for advanced practice roles as family nurse practitioners.

What You’ll Learn

Our 42-credit program combines online coursework with in-person sessions (up to three Fridays and Saturdays per semester) to train students as primary care providers within their community. Full-time and part-time program options are available.

The graduate program builds on the fundamental principles of nursing to ensure the provision of high quality care. Students learn critical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment skills and are mentored in the application of these skills throughout their clinical rotations.

We also offer a Certificate of Advanced Study, designed for nurse practitioners who are currently not a Family Nurse Practitioner as well as the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner designed for nurses who wish to become nurse practitioners who care for patients from adolescents to adults.

Clinical courses are hybrid and are scheduled on up to three Friday evenings and Saturdays each semester

The Department of Nursing’s graduate curriculum is designed to provide the education necessary for function at the advanced practice level of nursing. Our curriculum has a strong focus on culturally competent care. This helps develop the attitudes, knowledge, and skills necessary for providing care to diverse populations.

Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the national licensure exam as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Curriculum & Learning Outcomes

Program Eligibility

An overall GPA of 3.3 in all previous graduate/undergraduate work is required.
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited nursing program or an international equivalent is required.
An unencumbered New York state license and current registration as a registered professional nurse.
Recent work experience as a registered nurse is preferred and required before graduation.
