Department of

Our department combines three interrelated programs and prepares you  for a career in a variety of fields ranging from law to medicine.

Nature vs. Nurture.  Learn about the different approaches to studying human thought,  feeling, and behavior.

Psychology

Is it really possible for one person to have multiple personalities? What makes someone a psychopath? Why do people continue to vape when they know it’s dangerous? Our coursework focuses on more than just the foundation of psychology.

Research

Our professors are actively engaged in research. Students can engage in the research process alongside professors investigating topics such as:

  • Understanding and assisting children with developmental learning disorders
  • Using eye-tracking technology to study human attention
  • Examining minority students’ sense of belonging and its tie to academic success

We encourage our students to not only work alongside our professors on research, but to pursue their own inspirations and create new knowledge in the field as part of independent study.

Philosophy

Philosophy not only lets you engage with some of the greatest minds in human history; it helps hone your deep reading, critical thinking, and communication skills, which can be applied to any career path.

Philosophic Exchange

Philosophic Exchange invites prominent philosophers from around the globe to campus where they engage in philosophic debate on prominent issues. Over the past 50 years, the Philosophic Exchange has invited some of the most prominent philosophers of our lifetime.

Prepare for Law School

Learn how to construct, present, and challenge arguments. A philosophy major teaches students to think and write like a lawyer. On average, Philosophy graduates outperform all other majors on the law exam (LSAT) and commonly rank among the highest scores.

Neuroscience

The human brain is the most complex system in the known universe — so it’s no wonder that not a single scientific field can begin to explain it on their own. Study courses across biology, chemistry, psychology, and more to gain a foundation for understanding how we think, behave, perceive, and form memories.
