Branches of BSG
The Executive Branch ensures the overall functioning of the organization. Members of this branch include the President, Vice President, and Treasurer.

The Legislative Branch serves as the organization’s Board of Directors. Members of this branch include General Senators, Club Council Senators, and Elected Officers from registered student organizations.
BSG Senate
BSG Senate is comprised of 12 Senators that are elected to represent the student body. The Senate body consists of eight General Senators and 4 Club Council Senators. General Senators are elected by the SUNY Brockport student body; this election takes place at the end of the previous academic year. Club Council Senators are elected by members of the Club Council
The Judicial Branch keeps the Executive and Legislative Branches in check by ruling on student court cases. Members of the Judicial Branch include the Chief Justice, Associate Chief Justice, Clerk of Summons, Recruiter, and Recorder
Chief Justice
The Chief Justic is the head of the Student Court. This position monitors compliance with BSG policies and court rules. In the event of a trial, this position manages the court proceedings. The Chief Justice runs regularly scheduled Student Court meetings and provides weekly reports to the Senate
Associate Chief Justice
The Associate Chief Justice is the second highest ranking member of the Student Court. This position assists the Chief Justice with any required tasks. If the Chief Justice is unavailable, the Associate Chief Justice will fulfill the responsibilities of that position.
Clerk of Summons
The Clerk of Summons manages the Writs of Certiorari that come before the Court. The position is responsible for reviewing the Writ to ensure that it meets the necessary standards. Once a Writ is accepted, the Clerk will present the Writ to the other Justices at a Court meeting.
Writ of Certiorari is a formal request for Judicial action against a Club Officer or BSG member. This process is used when there are alleged violations of the BSG Constitution, BSG Bylaws, and/or a Registered Student Organization’s individual constitution. Once a Writ of Certiorari is submitted and accepted by the Court, the Justices will rule on if there is enough evidence to move the matter to a trial.
Recruiter
The Recruiter is responsible for recruiting students to be members of the Court. This position utilizes various methods to connect with the Brockport student body to disseminate information about the Court, Court positions, and the Judicial process.
Recorder
The Recorder is responsible for maintaining the written record during Court meetings and trials. This position is responsible for taking notes on the proceedings and archiving documents to ensure that a lasting record is kept.
