Effective December 19, 2024, the minimum wage for current student employees (work-study and temporary service) will increase from $15 to $15.50 per hour. Student employees earning below the new minimum wage will have their wage rate automatically adjusted. Supervisors are not required to submit documentation for these adjustments.
Wage Increases for Students with Higher Responsibilities
For student employees earning at or above $15 per hour with increased responsibilities, supervisors can request wage adjustments to align with the new minimum wage changes. To do so, please fill out a student employment wage increase for each student.
Departments with large student employee rosters may contact Payroll at payroll@brockport.edu to request a spreadsheet of student information to be updated.
Work Study Considerations
Supervisors are reminded that work-study (WS) funds will be depleted more quickly so, student schedules may need to be adjusted to accommodate the entire semester. Students should contact Financial Aid to determine if they can increase their WS allotment. If students run out of WS, and need to remain working, they will need to be switched over to temp services. Departments are encouraged to track and plan accordingly.
Timesheets
As students work their last shifts at the end of the semester, please ensure they submit timesheets before they head home. Please check to be sure that a timesheet was submitted and approved for each pay period the student worked.
With minimum wage increasing, all timesheets from the fall semester need to be submitted and approved by December 18, 2024.
Please remind student employees to verify the address on file with SUNY Time & Attendance as paychecks & 2024 W-2’s will be mailed to the address on file:
- Log in to the Time & Attendance System
- Select “SUNY HR Self Service”
- Select “Address”
- View address that we have on file
- Update, if necessary, and save. Changes may take 2 – 3 pay periods to take effect.
Please Note: Changes made to Banner do not carry over to SUNY Time & Table Attendance System, students must make changes themselves in the system. All paychecks, and paystubs if using direct deposit, will be mailed to the address on file. Paychecks are mailed by the Office of the NYS Comptroller (OSC) and cannot be picked up in the payroll office.
Winter Break & Graduating Students
Student employees will not be terminated during winter break; they are authorized to work the full academic year. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to determine schedules, manage budgets, and communicate specifics about their position and the department needs with their student employees. Please check-in with student employees about work study awards and plans for work in the spring semester.
Let student employment know of any students graduating in December, not returning in the spring, or who will no longer be working so their timesheets may be terminated. Please email studentemployment@brockport.edu and payroll@brockport.edu with the following information:
- The student’s name
- 800#
- The last day worked
- Payroll type (work-study or temp service)
