I hope that each of you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break. We are in the home stretch of the semester with lots of work to be done. This can be a very stressful time for students, faculty and staff. I am also mindful that the holiday season itself can be a challenging time for people. I have included some resources below that are available to students, faculty and staff who might need some support.

When & Who to Call for Help

Emotional Dysregulation (i.e. uncontrollable sobbing; unable to be comforted; outbursts/yelling)

• Dismiss the class, if deemed appropriate
• Use de-escalation strategies to attempt to calm the student
• If you feel unsafe call UP ext. 2222
• If the student is amendable, bring them over to the Counseling Center

Behavioral issues (i.e. violent outbursts, or actions that disrupt and/or upset others)

• Call UP ext. 2222
• Consider referral to SBCT

Faculty and Staff Support

SUNY Brockport employees are encouraged to explore the many benefits and confidential problem-solving resources and self-help tools offered through EAP. This free benefit offers you and your family a wide variety of tools and services to help with life issues or problems that might affect your daily life at work or at home. It also includes training and other resources for your personal growth and development.

Presidential Search Listening Sessions

The Presidential Search Committee invites faculty and staff to discuss the qualities and characteristics they’d like to see in our next President. Each 45-minute session will be held on Zoom. Registration is required and the Zoom log-in information will be shared with registrants (via email) the day before the event. If you can’t make these sessions, there will be other opportunities to have your voice heard. WittKieffer will be distributing a community survey soon.

Provost Faculty Fellowship for Project-Based Learning

This year, there were a number of outstanding applications, and the selection process was highly competitive. I am pleased to share that the recipients of the Provost Faculty Fellowship for Project-Based Learning are:

Strive for 85 Digital Accessibility Campaign Update

Stive for 85 submissions begin on Monday, December 8th. The “Strive for 85” campaign is designed to encourage faculty to revise their course materials to maximize digital accessibility. It is being coordinated by Jessica Sniatecki, Assistant Dean for the College of Education and Health and SUNY Accessibility Advocates & Allies Faculty Fellow). Faculty who attains overall course accessibility scores of 85% or greater across all of their fall courses will earn an incentive to recognize their efforts. To qualify, courses must have a minimum of twenty pieces of content.
