One of the busiest times of the year is upon us as we make our way through the second half of the spring semester and work toward Commencement. Students (and many of us) had a chance to re-charge our batteries during the recent break, and now we are energized by the excitement of what is ahead.
- To start, I wanted to share the good news of two new hires for our University Events team.
-
Riley Shea Bonventre has been hired as our Manager of University Events and will start on April 9. A native of Spencerport and a graduate of SUNY Cortland, Riley comes to us with a wealth of experience as an advertising sales assistant, corporate marketing coordinator, and event marketing manager and consultant, most recently with Dotdash Meredith (now People, Inc.) out of New York City.
-
Sam Carges has been hired as Coordinator of University Events and will start on April 23. A native of Brockport and a graduate of SUNY Oswego, Sam joins the University after a five-year stint as Assistant Commissioner of the United East Conference where he served as Championship Director for a number of sports and their respective tournaments.
I want to thank Dan, Kaci, and Rich Klancer (Campus Recreation) for leading the search process that brought both Riley and Sam to our team. Dan and Kaci will work to transition all University Events functions to Riley and Sam by the close of the fiscal year (June 30) as they themselves move into their new roles as Assistant Director of Annual Giving (Dan) and Scholarship Coordinator (Kaci) during that same time frame.
- In addition to Riley and Sam, I want to also note that our new Director of Marketing, Patrick Broadwater, will be joining us next week (April 9). Debbie Jacob is transitioning to retirement after more than 13 years of award-winning and amazing leadership of our marketing team. We will celebrate Debbie’s impact on Brockport on April 23.
- Have you heard that Ellsworth has reached the finals of SUNY Mascot Madness? :) Kudos to everyone, led by our University Communications team, on getting Ellsworth back to his rightful perch as he tries to capture his second crown in three years. Competition begins tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31, at noon and concludes on Thursday, April 2. VOTE … and encourage everyone you know to do the same. Ellsworth embarks on a media tour starting Tuesday morning in Buffalo on WGRZ (local NBC affiliate).
- The Days of Giving (through April 8) are in full swing. Please continue to encourage faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to give. We have had some very nice additional “surprise” matches since things kicked off last week.
- The June 18 event “Celebration of Brockport: A night of legacies, community, and excellence” is coming together, thanks to our amazing collaborative Divisional team. The five major areas of focus will be the President’s retirement dinner, the campaign closing celebration, the President’s Donor Recognition event, the 50-year anniversary of the Brockport Foundation, and the reveal of the first 20 of 200 “Icons & Legends” in anticipation of the University’s 200th anniversary celebration in 2035.
