Bio

 Dr. Moe earned his B.A., with a double major in Communication Studies and Political Science at California Lutheran University, where he was a student-athlete and a member of the Kingsmen intercollegiate football team, earning All-Conference accolades. After earning his M.A. in Communication, Technology, & Society from Clemson University, he pursued to earn his Ph.D. in Media & Communication from Texas Tech University, at the College of Media and Communication.

At SUNY Brockport, Dr. Moe contributes by teaching, staying involved with research and serving the campus community. With over 40 academic peer-reviewed presentations at academic conventions Dr. Moe is an emerging scholar in his field. His work has been featured in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Human Behavior and Emerging Technologies, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, and Newspaper Research Journal.

Dr. Moe is a faculty member who effortlessly bridges the gap between academia and the vibrant world of today’s college students. Originally from Oslo, Norway, Dr. Moe’s background infuses his teaching and research with a unique blend of Scandinavian spirit and American grit.

Research Interests

Dr. Moe’s research for the most part deals with understanding how audiences respond to and perceive media messages. Specifically media messages involving news media, social media, media narratives and sports media are examined both at the societal and individual levels to comprehend how perceptions, social norms, attitudes, behavioral intent derives from such exposure.

Specific areas of interest include public opinion, opinion congruency, hostile media bias, spiral of silence, news consumption via social media, and political communication broadly. For example, recent work examines the influence of likeminded-affection between users in participatory media platforms and the effects of user comments on perceptions of news coverage.

Dr. Moe employs methodological pluralism across interdisciplinary inquiries, with a specialization in survey-experiments, content analyses, and meta-analyses.
