WHEREAS, in line with the State University of New York (SUNY) policies and procedures as well as Article 8, Section 356 of the New York State Education Law, all SUNY State-Operated institutions are mandated to establish local councils to oversee the institution’s operations and affairs, and
WHEREAS, the SUNY Brockport College Council was established for this purpose and has dutifully fulfilled its responsibilities to date, and
WHEREAS, SUNY Brockport officially changed its State Education Department title from State University of New York College at Brockport to State University of New York Brockport on November 16, 2022, reflecting the current and future breadth of undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered, and
WHEREAS, the University designation aligns with the new guidelines from the New York State Board of Regents for what constitutes a university, acknowledging SUNY Brockport’s offerings at both the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels through more than 165 undergraduate majors and minors and 65 graduate programs offered, and
WHEREAS, in recognition of this change in the name and status of SUNY Brockport from a College to a University, it is fitting that the College Council also formally change its name to mirror the institution’s classification and name; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED: The College Council supports the name change to SUNY Brockport University Council.
