Week 50: June 9, 2023

It has been almost a full year since we started doing these newsletters – this is week 50! – and we are going to make some modifications moving forward. There won’t be newsletters the next two weeks. Starting June 30, we will move this to a monthly update rather than weekly. We will still include birthdays and work anniversaries along with all of the other valuable info you love to read.
A group of our team has been at a couple of conferences this week: the local Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) on Tuesday and SUNYCUAD from Wednesday to Friday. I hope all who attended were able to network and enjoy some valuable professional development.
We are awaiting final word from SUNY on the extension of the Work From Home (WFH) policy (which expires June 30). We have our WFH plan for the summer – nothing that we are currently doing will change – but Cabinet will be discussing plans for the fall if the extension occurs. Stay tuned.
Two important pieces of good information from the Governor and Chancellor came out this week: The UUP contract has been agreed to (ratification still needs to happen) and the SUNY campuses are getting some one-time and permanent funding as part of the new state budget. There will be more details to come on both in the coming weeks.
Keep working on getting those evaluations for 2022-23 and performance programs for 2023-24 moving and submitted through your supervisor. The deadline to get them to HR is July 1.

Long-time EOP Director Gary Owens (also a BAWAFAS, Class of 1972) is retiring and there will be a reception for him this coming Monday, June 12, at 3:30 pm in the New York Room of Cooper Hall.
Invitations will go out next week for the Summer BBQ being hosted at the President’s House on Saturday, July 15.
The University is once again a sponsor of the Rochester International Jazz Festival (June 23-July 1). All attendees will be wearing their tickets on SUNY Brockport lanyards as they attend the hundreds of shows in downtown Rochester.
We will be hosting three local high school graduations on campus later this month. Spencerport High School (6/23, 7 pm), Brockport HS (6/24, 9 am), and Hilton HS (6/24, 2 pm) will have their ceremonies in SERC.
For the first time since 2019, the MLK Boys Academy – a subset of 3rd to 8th grade boys at School #9 in the Rochester City School District – will be holding their summer program on campus once again this year. They will be here Monday through Friday, July 10-August 11, and will be over at Alumni House most days for lunch. Three-degree alumnus and RCSD Assistant Principal Burnice Green runs the program. Thanks to our friends in OEDI and at Wegmans, Jimmy Z’s, and 58 Main BBQ for providing the lunches each day.
