It has been a BUSY summer, as I know all of you can attest, but your great work is truly appreciated. With the academic year just around the corner, here are some quick updates.
News and Notes …
- The hanging of the new campus banners started yesterday and all will be in place before the weekend is out. Those that are up already look fantastic. Thanks to Debbie for stewarding this project and to Alex for the creative work. The quality is perfect, and you can see and read them from great distances. As an example, here’s a sample of what they look like from my 7 th floor window view.
- Final year-end philanthropic numbers show $3,688,009 in private support for the 2022-23 fiscal year, just a few thousand less than last year. Highlights included the 1,440 donors and $165,000 raised during the March Day of Giving and several new space namings, including the Wegmans Ice Arena. Not counted among the current-year giving were new planned gift commitments (15) totaling more than $1,000,000 in future support for student scholarships, athletic teams, and other university priorities. It was a good year!

- Join the rest of campus for a Cabinet-sponsored Lugia’s Ice Cream Day on Aug. 14 at Alumni House starting at noon.
- Tuesday, Aug. 22, is the Faculty & Staff Convocation (10 am) followed by the Employee Appreciation Lunch (11:30 am), all in SERC.
- The Academic Convocation is Sunday, August 27, at 1:30 pm in SERC.
- The initial First Friday of the semester will be Sept. 1 starting at 4 pm at Alumni House.
- Our Divisional “Retreat” will be Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 2 to 4 pm at Alumni House. This will really be a chance to gather, discuss (in general) plans for the year with the entire team, play some games, and enjoy each other’s company.
