We are entering the “most wonderful time of the year!” The Fall semester is wrapping up and soon we will all settle in for a much-deserved rest for the holidays, and ring in 2024. Some will be glad it’s gone, while others wait with joyful hope that the new year will bring with it new life and vitality. I, for one, am grateful for the opportunity to lead such a great division and look forward to achieving even greater heights in 2024!! Thanks again for all that you do!! Finance & Management’s Student Accounts & Accounting (F&M/SAA)
On 12/07/23, Student Accounts & Accounting will welcome their new Collections Analyst, Erika Johnston! Erika brings a wealth of amazing skills honed during her 10 years as a Dispatcher in the Rochester Emergency Communications (911) Department. She literally helps save lives every day … hopefully, she will find life in Student Accounts & Accounting to be just a tad less dramatic than what she is used to!
Congratulations to Patrick Stellman on his recent promotion to Revenue Accountant! Patrick joined Student Accounts & Accounting two years ago and quickly demonstrated his fiscal expertise, team-centered attitude, and willingness to learn ANYTHING. His promotion is both well-earned and well-deserved!
Finance & Management’s Procurement & Payment Services (F&M/PPS)
Nina Gurnsey, who worked in Central Receiving and Central Stores, retired on November 30, 2023. She served the University for more than 16 years. Nina was a great team player and an asset, not only to our Division but to the entire campus community. We wish her the best of luck in retirement and enjoying all those beautiful grandchildren! We thank her for all that she has done, and we will miss her amazing smile.
Brockport Information Technology Services (BITS)
BITS’ own George Elyjiw is Retiring. For the last 17 years, George has worked for Academic Technology Support (ATS) providing frontline daily classroom technology support. When he started, George supported TVs on carts, VHS players, and overhead projectors (most of which now reside in museums); now he supports laptops, computers, electronic control systems, and laser projectors, among other newer technologies. In between those times, George has faced many benefits (e.g.: the design, installation, and upgrades to “smart” classrooms) and challenges (e.g.: setting up all classrooms for teaching face-to-face and remotely during COVID), always with professionalism. He also provides an excellent example of top-level customer service when dealing with faculty and technology issues during class sessions. It is partly due to George’s dedication that ATS boasts a response time of less than seven minutes when dealing with classroom technology issues (something faculty are sometimes surprised by and thankful for). At the end of December 2023, George will retire from the University and focus more on activities that he enjoys, like mountain biking, rocketry, metal detecting, and not answering phone calls from panicked instructors. The University will definitely miss George and his work ethic, and those who continue to work here in BITS (and ultimately the entire University) should strive to follow his example in providing outstanding customer service to the students, faculty, and staff of SUNY Brockport.
