Vice President News from Ian Harper
Welcome to a very cold and snowy February!!!!, winter is certainly upon us. Although it didn’t deter some hardy students from South Carolina coming to visit the campus during one of the snowstorms this year. It’s worth reflecting on this for a moment as one of the newer initiatives underway to generate increased interest in SUNY Brockport is our Direct Admit Pilot Program. One aspect of this initiative is to strengthen our presence in key out-of-state markets, so far this has resulted in 986 applications an increase of 735 over last year.
It’s great to see that the Staff Saver Wednesdays has been extended for the semester and we are continuing with another one of our recognition programs the BASC Dining Coupons. This program gives you the opportunity to receive either a $10 coupon, (redeemable at The Square, Jitterbugs Café, Raj Mada, The Nest or TRAX) or a single use meal ticket for Harrison or Brockway dining hall, in recognition of doing something above and beyond, helping others, or by making a difference on campus.
Last year I introduced a series of informal chats called “Bring Your Own Lunch” sessions across the Division, these provided the opportunity to provide feedback, share what’s on your mind and to ask me questions you may have in an informal setting. I will be continuing these this semester, so look out for these and I am looking forward to spending some time with you.
I attended the Campus Leadership Summit in January, and we spent time reflecting, discussing and sharing our thoughts on two topics that were highlighted as areas for improvement from the Great Colleges to Work For survey, namely communications and collaboration. These discussions re-enforced how vital both are and provided some great information and input to support improvement going forward. Another key meeting held in January was the Budget Retreat, where the Cabinet got together with the budget team and reviewed our enrollment projections, discussed various aspects of our 5-year model and reviewed investment requests.
As a division that is primarily a service provider and gate keeper for the University, you face challenging situations and discussions. Firstly, I understand this and truly appreciate the work you do and the frustrations you face. Secondly, you have my commitment and support to work towards reducing these frustrations and addressing challenging situations.

Departmental News
Brockport Auxiliary Services Corporation (BASC)
January is often a time for training among the BASC team. BASC is pleased to report that the following professional development occurred in January.
- Allergen and ServSafe trainings were conducted with key culinary team members.
- Student Manager training took place as part of regular professional development and to review key topics.
- Members of the administrative and dining team attended the annual SUNY Auxiliary Services Association conference where the following team members completed in the Battle of the Chefs Competition: Chef Manager Tricia Hillman, Chef Manager Cody Butlin, Assistant Manager – Production Jason Lusk, and Assistant Manager – Production Dan Austin.
Brockway and Harrison Dining Halls will be celebrating “Pal-entine’s Day” on Friday, February 13 during lunch. Be sure to grab your favorite pal on campus and head to the dining hall for lunch and enjoy some special desserts and sweet treats!
Facilities Maintenance & Operations
Members of our HVAC crew recently attended a local job fair to help recruit for current and future HVAC positions. The team enjoyed the opportunity to speak with students about careers in the trades and share what it’s like working in Facilities at SUNY Brockport. They had a great time participating and look forward to continuing these outreach efforts.

Facilities Maintenance & Operations/Parking & Transportation Services (FMO/PTS)
PTS has been busy not only preparing for the spring semester but also completing many significant projects over the past several months.
- This fall, we experienced a sharp increase in student resident cars. Angelo and Chris successfully identified underutilized existing spaces to accommodate this influx. This effort required extensive planning, including reconfiguration, new signage, and the use of greeters during the first week of the semester. In addition, massive communication efforts from Kayla, Tyler, and Bibek provided timely and relevant parking information to the campus community—reducing stress and setting realistic expectations. Way to go, team!
- Other highlights: Kayla was awarded recognition through CSEA—congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.
- Angelo completed training as a Conduct Officer and will begin serving as a student mentor for the Leadership Development Program. Along with his team, he also planned and executed parking arrangements for several campus events, helping to create a welcoming and organized atmosphere for our guests and campus community.

- Chris’s efforts to improve office efficiencies continue to have a strong impact. He has reworked multiple bills and notices, added new features to existing systems, maintained and enhanced the LPR system, and coordinated the installation and configuration of two new EV chargers. These chargers are now available in the Allen Loop and Lot O.
