Physics Student & Faculty Present Research at National Conference

Physics major Allison Blum and faculty member Dr. Ka-Wah Wong presented their research at the 245th American Astronomical Society Meeting and visited the Roman Space Telescope at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

The AAS meeting took place in National Harbor, MD from January 12 - 16, 2025, with more than 3600 attendees. AAS meetings are the largest gatherings of professional astronomers in the US and are well-attended by astronomers and astrophysicists from around the world.

Allison presented a poster and Dr. Wong gave an oral presentation. Dr. Wong also chaired an oral session titled “AGN/Quasars VIII (Radio, Jets).” They also visited the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Roman is similar to the Hubble Space Telescope, but its field of view is 100 times larger. It is schedule to launch by May 2027.

This research was conducted by Allison Blum during a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, in the summer of 2024.

Presentation #2

This talk was based on research done by physics students Colin Steiner and Allison Blum, during the SURP and over multiple semesters at Brockport. Colin is currently a PhD student in Materials Science at the University of Rochester.
