Bio
Dr. Haley Moore is an orchestra conductor, educator, fiddler, and scholar with a passion for creating inclusive, connected musical communities. She is thrilled to join the faculty at SUNY Brockport as the Orchestra Conductor, bringing with her over a decade of conducting experience across public schools, community programs, and festival ensembles.
Dr. Moore earned her PhD in Music Teaching and Learning from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music in 2024, where she also completed her master’s in music education (2015) and bachelor’s in violin performance (2013). She additionally holds an Advanced Certificate in Mind-Body Healing and Wellness from the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester. Her research and teaching draw from a holistic philosophy, focusing on connection, reflection, and creativity in music education.
In addition to working at SUNY Brockport, she is the orchestra director at Canandaigua Academy (Canandaigua City School District), where she leads three curricular string orchestras and one extracurricular fiddle ensemble. She has previously conducted ensembles for the Eastman Community Music School, the Rochester City School District, Rush-Henrietta High School, and several All-County festivals in New York State. She also serves as the fiddle instructor at the Eastman Community Music School, where she has taught various group and private classes for nearly 10 years.
Haley is also an active fiddler specializing in Irish, Old-Time, Folk, Bluegrass, and Appalachian styles. Originally from Northern California, she studied fiddle with the notable Laurie Lewis, Fletcher Bright, Darol Anger, and Bruce Molsky. She has also been a member of the Rochester-based Irish rock band Sisters of Murphy since 2016. Additionally, she studied classical violin with William Barbini in California, and Zvi Zeitlin at the Eastman School of Music.
Dr. Moore presents regularly at national and international conferences on topics including professional development for music educators, holistic education, student wellness, and music-making as a tool for connection. Her writing has appeared in the Holistic Education Review and Arts Education Policy Review. She also serves as a contributing editor and peer reviewer for the Holistic Education Review.
