Bio

Dr. Kristin Heffernan joined SUNY Brockport as an assistant professor in 2008. She holds an MSW degree from Fordham University and a doctoral degree from Boston College and is currently a full professor. Prior to coming to SUNY Brockport, Dr. Heffernan was a social work lecturer in the Health and Social Care Department at Royal Holloway, University of London, where she also served as Director of the BSc Social Work (Hons) Program for four years. Dr. Heffernan’s specific research interests lie in social justice, promoting social work education & leadership.  Dr. Heffernan teaches Social Work Methods I & II and Case Management. Her community-based practice has included clinical and administrative work with at-risk youth and families in both New York and Boston. She is also a certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F).
