Bio
Dr. Amy Guptill joined the Brockport faculty in 2004, earning tenure and promotion to the rank of Professor in the Department of Sociology. She brings a wealth of leadership experience, including distinguished service as Chair of Sociology, Interim Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty Co-Chair of the 2020-2022 Middle States reaccreditation process, and President of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society. A recipient of both teaching and service awards, she has published two textbooks and over a dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, mostly on different aspects of sustainable food systems. Her scholarly record has led to several invited talks and appointment to advisory councils of US Department of Agriculture programs. Dr. Guptill holds an MS and PhD in Development Sociology from Cornell University with minor areas of study in agricultural economics, regional planning, and geographic information systems.

Research Interests
I study agriculture and food systems and the role of food in social change. I am fascinated by questions about the ways, both subtle and dramatic, that food systems shape our lives and our environments. I collect data on phenomena like online local food marketing and the social and spatial relationships that make up food value chains. I also enjoy bringing insights from food studies to broader audiences by writing textbooks for college students and playing advisory or governance roles in multiple organizations working to change the food system for a more just and sustainable future.
