CBFRC Summary: April 3, 2018

Present: Eileen Daniel, Peter Dowe, Kathy Groves, Crystal Hallenbeck, Timothy Henry, Teresa Major, Kathleen Peterson, Karey Pine, Karen Riotto, and Dillon Thompson

Regrets: Priya Banerjee, Chantelle Nasri, and Melissa Wight

• Karen stated that the course related fees and the Voluntary Medicine Charge were both endorsed by JPBC and these items are in process of being put on the agenda for President’s Cabinet on April 18th.
• Karen stated that there are three more meetings left in the semester for this committee, including this meeting. This committee will not be meeting over the summer. The work that needs to be finalized for this committee is:
  • The Campus Based Fee Policy - once the policy is finalized, it will have to be sent to the
    Campus Policy Committee.
  • Revisit the fee template – to include the following fees that we analyzed:
    
    • Drop/Add
    • Credit-by-exam
    • Certification
  • In the fall we will revisit the certification and credit by exam fees. Current ideas for the
    credit by exam fee are:
    
    • Charge an administration fee
    • If student passes, charge a fee for awarding the credit
    • Possibility for administration fee to go to the academic department for the faculty member’s time
    • The fee for awarding the credit should go to the reserves to compensate for the tuition revenue loss.
• Karen asked members if they were in agreement to the $2 increase in the parking fee. This
  increase is based on the consumer price index, which is part of the contract negotiations with the union.
• Karen and Kathy are meeting with Lou tomorrow to go over the committee’s fall proposal.
  Within the proposal, the committee was asking BSG to evaluate their assessment criteria. Due to time constraints, this request will not be completed this semester, but we can request it again in the fall.
• Committee members reviewed the Campus Based Fee Policy. Members discussed language
  edits and Karen requested members to submit any changes to her by close of business on Friday, April 6, 2018.
• A future discussion for the committee will be analyzing the withdrawal fee and any other fees that may not have been increased in several years.
