Fall 2019 Items

Re-engineering Fee-Based Budget Approval Process

  • Ms. Riotto shared the formal memo for fee managers requesting their attendance at the
Student Fee Forum on November 13 and we are working with Frank Mancini for technology support for the forum. In addition, a PowerPoint template was developed and sent to the Fee Managers to keep the presentations consistent and ensure the items requested in the memo are covered.
  • Members discussed the advertising for the forum decided to send the ad to Frank Mancini, Kim Haines and Scott Haines for digital signs. In addition, send the ad to Mr. Harrison, the Health Center and the Fee Managers for distribution. Another suggestion was placing an ad in the Daily Eagle and possibly utilizing the radio station. An ad will run in the Stylus a week before the forum. Another suggestion was possible creating a pop-up on the login screen in the computer labs.
  • Members discussed the feedback form and the following discussion points occurred:
    • Add, “Did you view the forum” as some students will not be in attendance at the
Brockport campus and will be viewing the forum either at Brockport Downtown or
      the video.
    • In regards to the wording for where the student attends classes, add REOC by
Brockport Downtown to ensure the student knows the location.
    • Create a grid question for students to rate the fees with columns indicating the fee
name, the awareness level, usage of the fee and the level the fee enriches the students’
      experiences.
    • The form will be live starting November 13, 2019 and end November 27, 2019.
    • The feedback form will be placed in the Daily Eagle and the link will be posted with
      the individuals we advertised with.
    • We are developing a website for the committee and the feedback form will be located
      on this page.

2020 Fee-Based Budget Presentation Call Letter

Members agreed that Ms. Riotto and Ms. Hallenbeck would develop the draft of the Call Letter to be more quantitative and less qualitative. The spreadsheets used in the past will be utilized only for the conversations with Ms. Hallenbeck, the Fee Managers, and their Assistant Vice President and Vice President. The draft will be distributed to members by the next meeting so that it can be finalized by the November 22 meeting.

Summer 2020 Course Fee Request

Members discussed the course fee request for HEA 663, Seminar 3 in Higher Education. The
following concerns were discussed:

  • The expense of the fee especially for a one-credit course.
  • Other tools can be used to identify leadership styles and areas of improvement that are not as expensive or invasive.
  • A school with a similar program utilizes a different tool and it is conducted much earlier in the program in order to help with the development/improvement of leadership skills.
  • The pressure students may feel to share their results with their peers even though we were
told they would not be sharing this information.
  • The possibility if a student recently took a course as an undergraduate that paid for and
utilized a similar tool, the student should be able to waive the fee if they were able to provide evidence that they recently completed it.
  • If the tool was significantly less, it might be able to be covered by the department and the fee is not needed.

Members decided it would be best for Dr. Daniel and Dr. Houston-Wilson to meet with Dean
Hernandez regarding the committee’s concerns and to gather a better sense of the Dean’s standing on this fee. The goal is to have a meeting before the committee’s next meeting so that they can report back

Items from the Committee

The December 6, 2019, meeting will entail reviewing the results from the feedback form and
determining if any proposals will be needed in the spring to adjust our assessment structure.

Next Meeting: Friday, November 7, 2019, 8:30-9:30 AM, 185 Seymour
