About the Committee
Global learning is not exclusive to traveling abroad and thanks to current technology, it has never been easier to bring the world into the classroom. Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) advances SUNY Brockport’s strategic plan and create greater access to global engagement for our students. COIL projects prepare students with the necessary employment skills to be successful in today’s culturally diverse workforce and global economy.
Mission & Goals
For Students
Global learning is not just limited to travel abroad. With COIL courses, you can bring the world into your classroom and engage with students like you all over the globe. To find out about available COIL opportunities, contact us at: overseas@brockport.edu.
For Faculty
COIL is about connecting across differences. It connects you with a faculty member in a different country to develop collaborative projects with your students across time zones, language differences, and geographical distance using online tools. It is an aspect of your new or existing course that supports your student learning goals, giving you and your students the opportunity to engage with your course concepts hands-on and – most importantly – explore them from diverse cultural perspectives. Other benefits include:
- Intercultural knowledge
- Virtual teamwork skills
- Engage in global problem solving
- Systems thinking mindset
- Provides faculty a pathway for shared research and collaborations
The basis for a successful COIL course is the collaboration between the faculty partners. Developing a partnership can come from: pre-existing connections between faculty, SUNY COIL professional development opportunities, or the CGEE international partner universities.
